A perfect holiday gift: literacy
Make a donation on First Book’s® Web site in December, and Random House Children’s Books will match your donation. Your gift will count twice!
Instead of the traditional gift exchange between friends, have everyone donate brand-new books to a local nonprofit program serving underprivileged youth.
Send flowers to the hostess of your holiday party from 1-800-FLOWERS.COMTM. For every purchase made, some of the proceeds come back to the Fraternity to support Fraternity programming, including various literacy projects.
Shop for friends and family at The Literacy Site. For every purchase, a donation of books is generated. Browse the site and you will find jewelry, clothing and accessories from various designers.
Above all else … just read! Read to your children or younger siblings. Or, think about volunteering your time to read to children in the hospital or at a local shelter.

Here we GROW again!

In January Pi Beta Phi will welcome a new chapter - Mississippi Gamma at Mississippi State University.
Alumnae Clubs are invited to help make our new members feel extra special by providing treats for goodie bags. Goodie Bags will be presented to members during a Bid Day celebration (Jan 25) and at a Cookie Shine (April 3). . These gifts of support can range from simple notes of welcome to a small item purchased by the club. We are anticipating 125-150 new members!
Address: Jessica Hinton, c/o Pi Beta Phi, Mississippi State, MS 39762.
Please know that this is not a required activity by your club, only an opportunity to welcome our new sisters.
Suggestions on small gift items follow, please don't feel limited to or bound by these ideas.
- Individually wrapped arrow cookies
- Pi Phi Express items (post it notes, pencils, etc)
- Individual notes/notecards of welcome (can be computer generated and/or identical)

Elementary School and Arrowmont to Benefit From Sale of Gatlinburg Property
Grand Council announced that Pi Beta Phi Elementary School located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, will be the recipient of a $1 million gift, which is to be used for an endowment or to establish a foundation.
Pi Phi has also clarified their intentions for Arrowmont School of Art and Crafts. Contingent on the contract as currently written the crafts school stands to receive up to $9 million from the Fraternity.
For this and other information concerning the sale of the Gatlinburg property read the FAQ
Pi Phi for Life!
The Greater Charleston Area Alumnae Club is working on a new project this year. Rather than adopting an entire college chapter the club is supporting all of the undergraduate ladies from the Charleston area. "...We think this would be a great way to get the word out about us in the area, and to help recruit members who may return to our club as alumnae later on. We would like to send the ladies small letters and gift to show our support in Pi Beta Phi"

Pi Beta Phi in Negotiations With Gatlinburg Developer
Pi Phi's efforts to assist the economic development of Gatlinburg began as an outlet for regional crafts and evolved into preservation and education for those artisan skills through the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Arrowmont became an independent corporation in 1991, but Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, Foundation, alumnae clubs, collegiate chapters and individuals have continued to support the school through generous financial contributions. Arrowmont holds great affection among members for its historical significance to the Fraternity. The members of the Arrowmont Board of Govenors are considering several options regarding the future of the crafts school.
"It's not an easy decision to leave Gatlinburg after almost 100 years," says Mrs. Tarr. "But our founders created Pi Phi to be a living, thriving organization with extension as a goal. We now have the opportunity to extend our literacy vision, but we will always be grateful for the opportunity to realize that vision in Gatlinburg. "

Over the next few weeks the Alumnae Regional Teams will be conducting Leadership Summits in a variety of locations at a variety of times.
If you would like to participate in any of these opportunities to share ideas and gain valuable leadership development, contact any of the Alumnae Directors listed below. These Summits are open to any member.
Some events include overnight stays and some are designed as one day events. Select a location close to you, or in a city that you would like to visit, and join the group to gain information and share fun and friendship with other Pi Phis.
